
The routine of preparing & firing Edinburgh's Time Gun in the 1860's The associated Timeball, situated at Calton Hill, is clearly visible at the Port of Leith & the sound penetrates the thickest 'harr'( fog). One hundred and fifty years later the electric connection has long gone and the gun is fired with reference to a pocket watch synchronised with the 'speaking clock' on a UK telephone network.
