The Golden Knight Statue:
However, what interested me the most about this hotel, was the golden knight statue situated on the rooftop of its car garage. Once I returned to Morocco, I began to come up with my own theories as to its existance, as well as the name of the Savoy itself. On the history webpage, I saw nothing regarding this golden statue which is one its of the more distinctive features. By hypothesising alittle, I've come up with my own explaination.
I believe that the golden knight statue was inspired by the legend of Jacques of Savoy, Count of Romont and Lord of Vaud from 1460 until his death in 1487. He became a knight of the Golden Fleece on 30 April 1478. The golden knight seems abit menancing and intimidating, but after looking at a portrait of Jacques of Savoy, I now understand why they didn't just recreate an image of him...
