...just some of the many statues & memorials placed throughout London...

Abraham Lincoln Statue:
Visitors to Parliament Square may be amazed to see this replica of Augustus Saint-Gauden's original statue that sits in Chicago's Lincoln Park.

These are just a few of the many statues, memorials, and age-old structures that are widespread throughout London's rich artistic culture. I personally believe this is what's missing from our more cookie-cutter contemporary western American architecture. Everytime I travel outside of America, I'm amazed at what I see. It's not that I don't enjoy the beautiful coastline of Calfornia, it's just that everything is so blah in the way of building architecture. As a sidebar, have you seen the "Freedom Tower" (concept building) for the 9/11 twin towers? At first look, when it was proposed in back in 2003, there was much controversary over its design, which I personally believe falls short of spectacular. Fortunately however, as of May of this year, they are going to redesign it. As well, Donald Trump wants to throw out the current Freedom Tower plans and rebuild the twin towers...but bigger versions. He was quoted as saying, "Throw it all away. It looks like a junkyard. You take a look at a the roofs of those buildings, they're all at different angles, different shapes. It is the worst pile of crap architecture I have ever seen in my life." With that, he's recently unveiled his own plans... http://www.atsnn.com/story/141375.html Posted by Hello
