The bronze sculpture of George III by John Bacon commands a prominent position in the Courtyard. It was erected in 1789 and depicts the King dressed in a toga, leaning lightly on a rudder. At his feet, a lion and the prow of a Roman war galley symbolise imperial and naval power.
