Essaouira (Spring,2005)

Palm Tree, Sand Castle, and a Hooded Man (Essaouira, Spring-2005)

This Spring I traveled to Essaouira for my first time, after hearing so many great things about it. This town is the Moroccan coastal spot most popular with independent travellers, and only rarely do you see package tours here. By the looks of things, however, this won't last forever, because Essaouira's word is spreading. It has a beautiful beach that curves for kilometres to the south, and when you're there it seems a bit "magical". It's a great place for those International Travelers and Moroccan-XPats whom have had enough haggling and jostling in the big cities, and Essaouria can be summed up in one word: relaxing. The forts of the old city are a blend of Portuguese, French and Berber military architecture, and their massiveness lends a powerful mystique to the town. Here are pics...

Cool site and pictures. I have never been to Essaouira. But I have been to Asilah (20 miles south of Tangiers). From the pictures the two towns almost look identical. Allah Y'aoun
